The Hurricane of 1938 was one of the most devastating storms to strike southern New England, arriving without warning in September. In The Great Hurricane: 1938, Cherie Burns traces the storm’s impact by interviewing survivors and collecting stories passed down through generations. Burns has been a feature journalist since 1975. Her work has appeared in The New York Times MagazineThe Wall Street JournalPeopleGlamourNew YorkSports IllustratedConstitution and other publications. She now lives primarily in Taos, New Mexico and has spent summers in Nantucket for many years.
